NCF, UNDP–GEF empower 180 women, youths in Yobe
The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), implementing partner of the UNDP–Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF–SGP) Nigeria, has organised a two-day skill acquisition training for women and youths in Yobe State.
Mr Harry Hanson, NCF Zonal Officer and Project Coordinator, disclosed this on Thursday in Nguru, saying the training benefited 130 women and 50 youths drawn from Maja-Kura community in the area.
He explained that the training, held under the project “Sustainable Farmers-Led Adaptation Strategy (SFLAS) to Climate Change,” focused on promoting climate-resilient livelihoods and environmental sustainability across the participating communities.
Hanson said the initiative formed part of the project’s livelihood component aimed at empowering rural women and youths with practical skills that enhance income generation and support sustainable environmental practices.
He said participants were trained on processing soybeans into soy cake and soy milk, converting crop residues into animal feed, and packaging agricultural products for improved market value.

“The skill acquisition training also seeks to reduce dry season animal feed scarcity in Nguru and create additional income streams for women and youths,” Hanson stated.
He added that participants were equally trained to produce fuel-efficient stoves as a measure to curb deforestation and promote the use of clean, sustainable energy within Maja-Kura community.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malam Lawan Abdu of the Nguru Emirate Council commended NCF and GEF–SGP Nigeria for implementing what he described as a “credible and impactful intervention.”
Abdu urged all participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training to improve their livelihoods and justify the confidence reposed in them by the organisers and development partners.
