NEDC supported 38,000 vulnerable children.

The Northeast development commission, in collaboration with the Yobe state government, has supported thirty-eight thousand vulnerable children in Tsangaya and Almajiri schools across 17 local government areas of the state.

 Speaking while launching the distribution exercise and handing over the solar-powered borehole in Buni Yadi, the headquarters of Gujba local government area, the managing director of the commission Muhammad Goni Alkali said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts by NEDC to address the needs of vulnerable people in the northeast.

Represented by the state coordinator of the Commission, Professor Ali Ibrahim Abbas, the managing director stated that  Gujba is one of the most affected local governments by the activities of insurgents, hence the need to support the tsangaya students to address one of the most pressing educational challenges confronting the region.

 The commission has provided the community with a solar-powered borehole aimed at complementing Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration towards providing a conducive teaching and learning atmosphere across the formal and non-formal education system in the state he stated.

Muhammad Goni Alkali further emphasised that the items were provided to bring succour to the Almajiri and tsangaya schools across Yobe state.

 In his remarks, the state focal person, Almajiri and out-of-school children, Mustapha Muhammad Gujba expressed appreciation to the northeast development commission for the gesture.

 He called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the items given to them to improve their livelihoods and to further their educational pursuant.

 Some beneficiaries who spoke to newsmen expressed gratitude to the state government and the northeast development commission for coming to their aid.

 Items distributed include blankets and nylon mats among others.
