NEMA distributes relief materials to fire victims in Jigawa

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Friday presented relief materials to victims of fire outbreak at three communities in Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that a mysterious fire outbreak on Sunday left one person dead and  destroyed property including livestock worth over N100 million.

The fire ravaged Malamawar-Dangoli, Karange and Kwalele communities rendering over 100 households homeless.

The Director-General of the Agency, Mustapha Ahmed stated this while presenting the items to the victims at Malamawar-Dangoli village in Kiyawa.

He said the gesture was aimed at providing succour to the affected persons to augment initial response to the disaster by the state government.

He said that President Muhammadu Buhari directed the Agency through the Ministery of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, to provide relief materials to the victims.

The government, he said, sympathised with the affected persons, hence the immediate interventions to assuage their sufferings.

Ahmed said the Agency provided relief items based on preliminary assessment conducted by its Kano Territorial Office in collaboration with the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

The DG also announced N1 million donation to the victims by the President-elect, San. Bola Tinubu.

“I was with the president-elect when the deputy governor of the state, called to inform me about the incident, so he gave N1m to support the victims,” he said.

He listed the items to include 2,000 bags of 10kg of rice and beans; 774 bags of sorghum; 1,500 pieces of children’s wears; 3,000 pieces of textiles materials and 400 blankets.

Others were 400 treated nets; 400 mattresses.400 plastic buckets, 400 plastic plates, 400 plastic cups and 400 spoons.

According to him, the government will also provide building materials to enable the victims to rebuild their homes and resume their normal lives.

Also, Gov. Muhammad Badaru, represented by his Deputy, Umar Namadi lauded the gesture, adding that it would assist the victims.

Badaru thanked President Buhari for his support to the victims of fire and other natural disaster in the state.

Some of the victims, Hassan Muhammad and Sadiya Haruna lauded the gesture, saying it would alleviate their sufferings.
