NEMA responds to boat mishap at Dundaye village in Sokoto
The Sokoto Operations Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has responded to boat mishap in Dundaye community in Wamakka Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
This is contained in a statement by Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi, Head of the NEMA Sokoto Operation Office, on Monday.
About 10:00 hours of Sunday (11/08/24), we received an alert of a Boat mishap disaster at Dundaye town in wamakko LGA of sokoto state.
“The boat capsized with 36 persons on board , 19 persons were survived the tragedy while 1 dead body was removed from the river while 16 are persons both men, women and children ere still missing.
“The rescue operation was being coordinated by NEMA,SEMA, NRCS with about 30 local divers and fisher Men,
Rescue operation will continue tomorrow.

“Meanwhile we communicated with the communities down stream to be on Red alert and watch out and retrieve bodies of victims if seen floating bye along the river canal”, Kagindangi explained.
The rescuers were motivated by the presence of the State Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Special Adviser to Sokoto State Governor on Disaster, House of Representatives and the State Assembly Members.
