NIGCOMSAT to empower youths with broadband internet installation skill
The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd is set to train 100 youths in the installation, configuration and maintenance of Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) systems.
The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that VSAT is a technology widely used to deliver broadband internet in underserved areas.
This was said in a statement on Wednesday by the Head of Corporate Affairs Department NIGCOMSAT Ltd, Aisha Bantam in Abuja.
The event, which would be held in Calabar from July 21 to July 26, is open to startups, local innovators and students across the region.
Bantam encouraged interested participants to visit the NIGCOMSAT website to complete their registration.
“This initiative was designed to empower and inspire young Nigerians by uniting University students, local tech innovators and young professionals from across the South-South region.
“The programme aims to foster creative solutions to real-world problems using satellite and space-based technologies,’’ Bantam said.
She quoted the Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT Ltd, Mrs. Jane Egerton-Idehen, as saying the five-day training would provide participants the platform to identify community challenges proffer solutions to them.

Egerton-Idehen said they would also be able to develop ideas, build prototypes and benefit from mentorship by industry experts.
“The winning team will secure a coveted place in the NIGCOMSAT Accelerator Programme Cohort 2025, gaining access to further resources, exposure and support for project implementation.
“Participants will receive certification, equipping them with in-demand skills and positioning them for employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in Nigeria’s growing ICT sector,’’ Egerton-Idehen said.
It would be recalled that the earlier editions of the programme were held in Yola, from Februrary 24 to February 28 and Dutse, between April 7 and April 11.
