NIPR, Nasarawa Govt. sign MoU to establish University of Public Relations

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nasarawa State Government on the establishment of a University of Public Relations and Leadership.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the MoU was signed by Gov. Abdullahi Sule and the NIPR President Dr Ike Neliaku on Monday in Abuja.

Sule expressed his utmost appreciation, admiration and commitment to the project of establishing the university.

The governor said that he is 100 per cent committed to the project and thanked NIPR leadership for the wonderful things they have done.

“We have to continue to show commitment so that the world would understand that in Nigeria, we have people that, when they commit, they live by that commitment.

“NIPR is a wonderful institute that, even before setting up the university, over 120 countries have indicated interest in. It is the reason why you can use this platform for the real renewed hope of Nigeria.

“In my career as an oil and gas engineer, I have seen many MoUs signed, but implementation becomes a huge challenge in Nigeria. I want this one signed today to be implemented 100 per cent.

“I am happy with the amount of work of the NIPR president and his team so far.

“That is the reason we decided to come with the conveyance of approval of the land and hand it over to you; let it not be that we are only signing the MoU. We are handing over the land to you today,” Sule said.

The governor enjoined the NIPR to consistently work with the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Lands for the survey and any other task.

Sule promised to pay the bills for the fencing of the land and building a structure that would be used for meetings when stakeholders from other countries come to the university located in Gudi, Nasarawa State.

Speaking earlier, Neliaku lauded the efforts and commitment of Sule, stressing that he is a man of his words.

“That is why we are here today to sign this historic agreement to cement this relationship.

“All along, we have been engaging, but now, we come to a milestone to sign this agreement that will flag off the development of the University of Public Relations and Leadership in terms of physical development,” Neliaku said.

He explained that the Vice President of the NIPR, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, and his team were already working hard to complete the paperwork in terms of registration, curriculum and others for the institution.

He added that the Minister of Information and National Orientation was in full support of the project.

Neliaku noted that the university would be one of the fastest-growing institutions in the world, adding that about 126 countries through the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management have indicated interest in the project.

“This will be a global university; that is why we require a global site, global infrastructure and global facilities that everyone will be proud of.

“Many times, we talk about building a New Nigeria. NIPR as social scientists took time to look at the issues; we discovered that the issue is not about New Nigeria but about building New Nigerians that will build a new Nigeria,” he said.

VMT NEWS reports that those in attendance during the signing of the MoU include the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, Malam Jibrin Ndace; that of the National Orientation Agency, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu; and many others.
