NOA urges dialogue to curb farmers-herders clashes in Yobe

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on farmers and herders in Yobe to embrace dialogue as a tool for resolving disputes and fostering peaceful coexistence.

The State Director of NOA, Alhaji Muhammed Tikau, said this in in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Damaturu.

Tikau emphasised that there was the need for mutual understanding and respect for designated boundaries to prevent the recurrence of conflicts between the groups.

He said that grazing areas were specifically demarcated for herders to rear their livestock, urging farmers to avoid encroaching on such lands to minimise tension and disputes.

“The importance of peaceful coexistence cannot be overemphasised. Both farmers and herders play critical roles in ensuring food security and economic development in Nigeria,” he said.

The director urged stakeholders, including traditional and community leaders to support initiatives aimed at promoting harmony between herding and farming communities.

According to him, sustained peace and dialogue will enable communities to carry out their economic activities without fear of disruption or violence.

Tikau reiterated NOA’s commitment to promoting national unity, social cohesion, and conflict prevention through continuous engagement with grassroots communities across the state.
