Nollywood film “Phoenix Fury” premieres at African Film Festival in US
Nollywood Blockbuster drama “Phoenix Fury” has been selected for premiere at the 16th annual Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) in the United States.
The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the organisers of the annual film fiesta made the announcement on their verified Instagram page, @svafilmfest,
According to SVAFF, “Phoenix Fury” is among 92 films from 35 countries selected to screen at the festival slated to hold from Oct. 9 to 12 at San Jose in California.
The star-studded film, written, directed and produced by ace filmmaker Ifeoma Chukwuogo, feature Uzoamaka Power, Onyinye Odokoro, Joseph Momodu, Ama K. Abebrese and veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo.
The plot of “Phoenix Fury” tells the story of Ewura-Ama, a widow, who inherits a luxury resort in Ghana only to have her life disrupted by the arrival of Yali, Nigeria’s newly elected governor.
Phoenix Fury ‘s selection for SVAFF comes a year after its award-winning debut at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), where it clinched Best Film and Best Director.

The film has also earned a nomination at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for Best Lead Actress.
Other Nigeria films on the 2025 SVAFF selection list include Mother’s Love, Osamede, Soft Love, In Her Shoes, and The Incredible Sensational Fiancée of Sèyí Àjàyí’, among others.
VMT NEWS reports that the SVAFF, founded by Chike Nwoffiah, aims to promote understanding of Africa and its diaspora through films that showcase authentic African stories.
It features film screenings, panel discussions, live performances, fashion show and an African Market.
