Northeast Governors Call for Intensified Collaboration to Combat Resurgent Boko Haram Activity
Damaturu, Yobe State – Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State today urged fellow governors of the Northeast region to strengthen collaboration with the federal government and security agencies to counter the resurgence of Boko Haram.

Hosting the 11th North East Governors Forum meeting in Damaturu, Governor Buni emphasized the urgent need for a strategic, unified approach to address the escalating security challenges.
“We must act swiftly to build upon the progress made in peace, security, and socioeconomic development in recent years,” Governor Buni stated. He called for immediate action, urging the sharing of resolutions with security chiefs and federal agencies to enhance synergy and effectively halt the renewed insurgency.

The forum, Governor Buni noted, has fostered strong regional cooperation among member states, providing a platform for addressing shared concerns. This meeting will focus on reviewing past resolutions, assessing progress, analyzing challenges, and developing solutions to achieve regional goals.

Governor Buni expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and pledged the region’s unwavering support for federal government policies aimed at building a secure and prosperous Nigeria. He also commended the bravery and sacrifices of security personnel and local defense groups.

Looking ahead, Governor Buni highlighted the need to unlock the region’s economic potential, reducing over-reliance on federal allocations. He stressed the critical importance of job creation for youth to prevent their recruitment into violent extremism. Promoting agriculture through the provision of resources and equipment was cited as crucial to achieving food security and economic prosperity.

Borno State Governor and Forum Chairman, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, echoed these concerns, expressing worry over the renewed security challenges and pledging support to security agencies. He also urged residents to embrace agriculture and heed weather warnings to mitigate flood risks.
