NPC covers 70 percent EAD in Zamfara

The National Population Commission (NPC) has covered 70 per cent of the ongoing Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) in Zamfara State.

NPC’s Federal Commissioner in charge of the state, Alhaji Muttaka Rini, disclosed this while giving updates on the exercise.

Rini said that 70 per cent of the target areas across the 14 LGAs of the state had been covered so far.

“This represents 10 out of the 14 LGAs that were demarcated as at the time the commission reached its current level as pursued, prelude to the take-off of the proposed national census scheduled to commence across the country at a later date to be announced by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The exercise involves town demarcation, stock taking of number of household heads, which will facilitate identification of each hamlet, village and town for ease of headcount when the census proper commences.

“The significance of this vital information lies in its effectiveness as a help to governments at all levels to  determine appropriate steps to execute federation accounts allocation, judicious sharing formula among the tiers of government.”

He noted that the knowledge acquired would enhance infrastructural development in various sectors notably national planning, education, health and agriculture.
The official commended  the support given to the exercise by the state government and the 14 LGAs of the state.

Rini thanked the traditional rulers,  security agencies, serving and retired civil servants and individuals, for their contributions toward the success of the exercise.
