NYSC coordinator canvasses decent accommodation for corps members

The Abia Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Gladys Adama, has appealed to corps employers and other stakeholders to provide decent accommodation for corps members posted to them.

Adama made the appeal on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream I orientation course at Umunna in Bende Local Government Area.

She urged them to provide lodges for corps members or money in lieu of the accommodation, while ensuring that they had comfortable and secure environment during their service.

She also requested the corps employers to pay corps members monthly stipends commensurate with the current economic realities in the country.

According to her, the payment will enable them to meet their basic needs and focus on the service.

“By supporting corps members in these ways, employers and stakeholders can play a vital role in enhancing their overall experience and enabling them to make positive impacts in their host communities,” the NYSC boss said.

She congratulated the corps members on the successful conclusion of their orientation course, while commending them for their resilience, discipline and dedication during the exercise.

She reminded them about the importance of integrity and personal responsibility, while urging them to steer clear from distractions that could lead them astray.

She also advised them to give time to their post-camp skill acquisition training, adding that the in-camp training was merely introductory.

“As you step into your roles in various communities across the state, carry the torch of dedication and commitment that NYSC has instilled in you during this three weeks orientation.

“Let your actions reflect the values of service, unity, and patriotism.

“You have the power to inspire change, uplift those around you and create a legacy that will resonate long after your service year,” Adama said.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the low-key ceremony was held at the multipurpose hall of the camp due to the early morning downpour.
