Plateau Govt. rehabilitates 60 motorised, 300 hand-pump boreholes
The Plateau Government has commenced the rehabilitation of 60 broken down motorised and 300 hand pump boreholes in Jos.
Mr Bashir Lawandi, the Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy in the state, inuagurated the exercise on Sunday in Jos.
Lawandi said that the broken water facilities to be rehabilitated were scattered across communities within Jos North and Jos South local government areas (LGAs) of the state.
He said that the move was aimed at improving access to clean water for residents of the capital.
The commissioner explained that the rehabilitation would be done by the Sustainable Transfer of Appropriate Sustainable Technology and Expertise (TASTE).
” I am honoured to mark the rehabilitation of 60 motorised boreholes and 300 hand pump boreholes in Jos South and Jos North LGAs.
“This project is a significant milestone in our efforts at improving access to clean water and sanitation for our people.
“The Ministry of Water Resources and Energy, through the Plateau Municipal Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, (PLAMWASSA) is committed to providing sustainable access to safe and sufficient water to meet the cultural, social, and economic development needs of our people.
“The rehabilitation of these boreholes will go a long way in reducing the incidence of water-borne diseases, improving the health and well-being of our citizens, and promoting economic development in our communities.

“This intervention is just another starting point as we are going to sustain this strategy until all the broken down boreholes that can be redeemed are completely rehabilitated across the state,” he said.
Lawandi reiterated the commitment and determination of the current administration in the state to the welfare of its citizens.
He, however, called on the beneficiaries to take ownership and safeguard the facilities from being vandalised.
Earlier, Mr Nuhu Yakubu, the Country Director of TASTE, commended the state government for its efforts at providing access to clean and safe water to its citizens.
Yakubu, who said that his organisation had the requisite expertise, promised to deliver the project within the specifications.
