Plateau varsity sanctions 76 students over exams malpractice

The Management of the Plateau University, Bokkos, has sanctioned 76 students caught in examination malpractice.

This is contained in a statement by Mr Ngwen Jacob, on behalf of Mr Masara Kim, the acting Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the university.

The statement was issued on Tuesday in Jos.

Kim said that the move was approved by the university’s senate during its 102 regular meeting chaired by Prof. Moses Galadima, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic of the institution.

He added that the move followed the report presented to the senate by its Committee on Examination Misconducts.

According to Kim, the affected students committed the offences during the second semester examination for the 2024/2025 academic session.

“The committee investigated 76 students apprehended during the second semester examination for 2024/2025 academic session.

“Offences such as possession of mobile phones into examination halls, written notes and inscriptions on body parts related to examination questions were committed by the students.

“After deliberations, the senate approved punishments in line with the provisions of the students’ handbook.

“The sanctions include rustication for one academic session, compulsory carryover of affected courses and outright expulsions in severe cases,” he said.

Kim said that the management reaffirmed the university’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice.

He particularly said that the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Shedrach Best, had overtime emphasised its commitment to integrity, discipline and sound moral values.
