In the early hours of Wednesday, a kidnapping attempt in the El-Rufai Estate in the Bwari Area of the Federal Capital Territory was thwarted by the FCT police command and military troops. During the incident, a resident named Nathaniel was shot by the kidnappers.
Around 2 am, over 15 armed kidnappers invaded the estate, firing shots sporadically. Their attempt to abduct multiple residents was interrupted by the prompt response of the police and troops. According to a resident, Saliu, a fierce gunfight ensued between the police and the kidnappers, lasting approximately 30 minutes.
Saliu recounted, “At around 2 am on Wednesday, about 15 kidnappers stormed El-Rufai Estate. They were all armed and shooting continuously. They tried to kidnap some people, but fortunately, the police arrived quickly and engaged them in a gunfight. The exchange lasted about 30 minutes, and in the end, no one was taken away. However, they did shoot Nathaniel while attempting to abduct him.”
The FCT police command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and stated that the police are actively pursuing the kidnappers. “We received a distress call, and the DPO of Bwari mobilized his men along with the military to swiftly repel the miscreants in a gun duel. No one was kidnapped. The police are on the trail of the kidnappers,” Adeh reported.
