Ramadan: Commission supports 2,000 physically-challenged with food items in Sokoto

No fewer than 2,000 physically-challenge persons and other needy on Wednesday received support of assorted food items from the Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission (SOZECOM).

Malam Muhammad Maidoki, the Executive Chairman, SOZECOM, while inaugurating the distribution in Sokoto, said the gesture was an annual engagement towards easing the hardship among needy persons.

According to Maidoki, the materials given out includes 1,000 bags of 10kg rice and 2,000 cartoons of food items received by the Commission from Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the Chairman, Dangote Group of Company.

“In each pack there is Spaghetti, Macaroni, salt, semovita and other essential ingredients.

“Today’s event will cover 2,000 needy persons, including physically-challenge persons across the 23 local government areas of Sokoto.

“Moreover, SOZECOM has provide N2 million to support each person with N1,000 to transport the material given to him or her home,” he said.

The Chairman called on the beneficiaries to use the period of Ramadan to pray for those that supported them, leaders, Sokoto state and Nigeria in general.

In his remarks, Alhaji Sani Umar-Jabbi, the District Head of Gagi, who spoke on behalf of others, appreciated the donors for supporting needy persons.

“This is a great gesture which is of more concerned to us as traditional leaders as it touched the life of our subjects positively.

“We are grateful for the opportunity and urged other wealthy individuals to emulate the kindness of people like Dangote,” he said.
