Speaker wins Adamawa Central senatorial zone

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Iya Abbas of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of Adamawa Central Senatorial election.

Dr Ahmed Alkali, the Returning Officer, announced this after the collation of the results in Yola on Monday.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that Abbas is the serving speaker of the state House of Assembly.

According to Alkali, following the Saturday and Sunday election, Abbas scored 145,880 votes against Abdulaziz Nyako of All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 118,555 votes.

He said that Hamman Ahmadu of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) scored 21,352, while Adamu Ismaila of Labour Party got 12,237 votes.

”Similarly, Sen. Binos Yareo, representing Adamawa South senatorial zone was re-elected for the second term with 146,407 votes,” he said.

The returning officer further said that Yareo defeated his closest opponent, Samaila Numan of APC, who scored 94,828 votes.

Sen. Philip Abbo (APC-Adamawa North) was also re-elected with 71,927 votes, after defeating his closest opponent, Yohanna Amos of PDP, with 61,895 votes.

Reacting to his victory, Abbas appreciated the support of his constituents and promised good representation as senator for all.

He called on the other contestants to accept the outcome of the election and join hands to develop the senatorial zone.

Similarly, VMT NEWS also reports that PDP won seven out of the eight House of Representatives seats in the state.

They included Michika/Madigali; Gombi/Hong; Girei/Yola-South/Yola-North; and Guyuk/Shelleng federal constituencies.

Others are Maiha/Mubi-North/Mubi-South; Demsa/Lamurde/Numan; Ganye/Mayo-Belwa/Jada/Toungo, while APC clinched Fufore/Song federal constituency.
