SPN Organize Career Guidance Sensitization For Sokoto Students

The Sokoto Professional Network (SPN) have organized a one day career guidance and awareness programme for Junior Secondary School (JSS3) students of the state.
Addressing participating students, the chairman of Sokoto Professional Network, Engineer Zayanu Tambari Yabo said Career Guidance and Counseling is a very, very important component of our educational system that must be encouraged at all times.
While stressing that, it is not enough to put our children in classrooms and teach them various subjects without preparing their minds on which career they are going to pursue in life, Engr Tambari said children must be guided by parents and not compelled on career choices.
“”So that is why, as Professionals in various field from Sokoto, we consider it important to bring students who are our children from the Junior Secondary schools being that they are the formative stage and begin to orient their minds on right career choices for the sake of their future”.
On the sudden drop in quality of education recorded lately in most states of the federation, Engr Tambari agreed that it is a huge challenge that requires all hands on deck to be able to address, saying no society can develop beyond the level of the education of it’s citizen.
“Government, parents, NGOs, CSOs, traditional and religious leaders, all segments as well as every individual have a role to play because education is a collective responsibility”.
Registering his pains on the negative impact of insecurity on education, Engr Tambari appreciated the sacrifices of all security forces saying government of the day is handling the situation with the right techniques, with the right strategy, to ensure that these challenges are resolved.
Continuing, Tambari said, the insecurity no doubt affects all segments of the society, “It affects education, health care services, transportation and even social interaction between the various segments of society.
“However, to overcoming this security challanges demands collective responsibility. We must collaborate, cooperate and give information to the security agencies and give them moral support to enable them continue to discharge their responsibilities and address the situation”, Tambari advised.

Alhaji Yawale Isa urged them to prioritize skills and entrepreneur and not only paper qualification.
On his part, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar 111 represented by the District Head of Gagi, Umar Jabi appealed to female students to strive towards changing the ugly male dominated narrative especially in education.

Sultan who appealed to parents to end child marriage, re -emphasized that Islamic religion doesn’t not forbids female education, and also permits them to join even the security agencies.
Sokoto state commissioner of Police (CP) Ahmed Musa represented by
CSP Mainasara Yahaya said career guidance programme for students especially in JSS 3 was very apt hence that is the state which they need advise on how to make rational and informed choice of subjects that will shape their future.

urged Nigerian students to also place emphasis on skills, entrepreneurahip above paper qualification.
