Taliban army chief vows to crush dissidents in Afghanistan
The Taliban’s new army Chief of Staff, Qari Fasihuddin, on Wednesday promised to crush Afghan dissidents who destabilise the country with talk of resistance, ethnic rights and democracy.
The high-ranking Taliban military commander was cited by several local media outlets and pro-Taliban accounts as he spoke at a gathering in Kabul.
Fasihuddin, known as the “Conqueror of the North” among the Taliban, said the dissidents were seeking to disrupt security and lead the country into civil war.

He said that consultations were under way to establish a strong army in the near future that would be capable of defending the country.
The hardliners captured the capital of Afghanistan in August after the disintegration of the country’s 300,000 armed forces.
The Islamist militants also seized the weaponry, ammunition, and equipment of the previous government, including military aircraft.
Following the fall of Kabul, anti-Taliban leader Ahmad Massoud, formed the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan to fight against them in the Panjshir province of the country.
Massoud also announced a “national uprising” that led to widespread demonstrations in several Taliban-controlled provinces.
The Taliban carried out a huge offensive against Panjshir until they took control of the province and violently suppressed demonstrators.
