Tanzania unveils street children support programme
The Tanzanian Government has launched a nationwide initiative aimed at supporting children living and working on the streets, as part of efforts to protect vulnerable groups and promote inclusive development.
The Children in Street Situations (CiSS) initiative was inaugurated on Monday by Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Dorothy Gwajima, in Dar es Salaam.
Initial implementation will focus on Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, and Mwanza, providing education, vocational training, and life skills to street-connected children.

“Every child, regardless of background or circumstance, deserves protection, care, and the opportunity to reach their full potential,” said Gwajima.
She emphasised that street children are among the most at-risk populations, facing threats to their safety, health, and education.
The CiSS programme will complement existing government efforts to rescue, protect, and reintegrate street children into safe and supportive environments.
