The University of Abuja has marked a significant milestone with the foundation stone laying for the main site of the Abuja Leadership Centre (ALC), a new TETFund Centre of Excellence dedicated to Public Governance and Leadership.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the university’s Jahi campus, was jointly officiated by Arc. Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, and Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja.
The establishment of the ALC signifies a commitment to fostering leadership development and policy dialogue within Nigeria.
Vice-Chancellor Fawehinmi expressed profound gratitude for TETFund’s unwavering support, highlighting his confidence that the Centre will evolve into a pivotal national platform for leadership training, policy discussions, and broader governance engagement.

TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Arc. Echono, reiterated the fund’s strong commitment to the project, pledging support that extends to the provision of essential furniture and equipment.
He emphasized the strategic importance of the ALC’s location, noting its accessibility to leaders from various sectors across the nation.
Professor Phillip Dahida, the Director of the ALC, further charged the contractor present at the ceremony to adhere strictly to the approved project specifications, timelines, and quality standards throughout the construction process.
