TETFund commissions N873m projects in Bauchi varsity, poly

Fund’s intervention saved university system, says VC

Vice Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Prof. Mohammad Abdulaziz, has said that the university education system would not have been what it is without the intervention of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

Abdulaziz, who stated this during the commissioning of four projects newly completed by TETFund at the university’s main campus in Gubi, at the weekend, said: “Most of the structures here were provided through TETFund intervention.

“Imagine if there is no TETFund in the country, what will the university education system look like?” The VC said that with the intervention of the Fund, the university would soon establish a Faculty of Computer that many of the students have clamouring for.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who performed the official commissioning on behalf of the President, said that the government was committed to improving the standard of education. He said: “I am delighted to note that four projects valued at N472,112,546.83 would be commissioned at the university today.”

Tugar said that three projects at the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, valued at N401,554,348.19, were commissioned. The projects are Years 2017-2020 (Merged) Annual Intervention: A 500-Seater Capacity Examination Hall; A 300-Seater Examination Hall and Students’ Hostel Block.

According to him, the Fund has also sponsored 97 lecturers for doctorate degrees from this polytechnic in both foreign and local institutions, totaling N785,545,942.80 and 172 for masters degrees in both foreign and local institutions, totaling N319,687,369.15, while 472 members of staff have been sponsored for conferences attendance locally and abroad at a total cost of N177,743,377.
