President Bola Tinubu has thrown his weight behind Mr. Amaju Pinnick’s bid for re-election to the FIFA Council. Pinnick, who has served two terms as President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), is vying to retain his seat in the influential international body.
Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale confirmed Tinubu’s support, emphasizing the President’s strong backing for Pinnick’s candidacy. Ngelale highlighted Tinubu’s belief in Pinnick’s capabilities and his positive impact on international football administration.
The FIFA Council serves as the main decision-making body of FIFA between its Congress sessions. Comprising 37 members elected by the FIFA Congress for renewable four-year terms, the Council plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of global football.
Amaju Pinnick’s journey to the FIFA Council began in March 2021, making him the third Nigerian to achieve this milestone, following the late Oyo Orok Oyo and Dr. Amos Adamu. Pinnick’s re-election bid aims to continue his contributions to the development and governance of football on a global scale.
