UKaid funded project trains Zamfara children’s parliament on social protection
The UKaid funded project, “Expanding Social Protection for Inclusive Development (ESPID)”, has organised two days training for members of the State Children Parliament on social protection.
The UKaid funded NGO, Save the Children International (SCI) has been supporting Children Parliament in the state through Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO).
The training has 30 participants comprising members of the parliament, officials from MDAs, CSOs and Media among others.
In his remark while declaring the training open in Gusau on Thursday, the Programme Manager of the State SCI Field Office, Murtala Bello said the children’s parliament consider to be trained to improve their capacity on advocacy on social protection issues.

Bello noted that the SCI have been impacted the lives of children in the state under the parliament through various programmes implemented by Lifestep and Reach projects.He commended the MDAs and other stakeholders who have been supportive and cooperative to various projects of the SCI in the state.
The Advocacy and Communication Officer of the ESPID project in Zamfara, Nura Muhammad said the training was aimed to introduce children’s parliament to social protection.
“We want to introduce the participants to the most relevant social protection and social transfer discussion and debates facing developing countries today.
“We are going to communicate to participants the vital role of social protection’ policies and programmes in addressing poverty, vulnerability and social exclusion among other key areas of social protection”, Muhammad said.
The Social Protection and Inclusion Coordinator of the ESPID project, Ese Awharitoma commended members of the parliament for their active participation in various activities for children’s promotion and development in the state.
Awharitoma charged the participants to pay attention to various presentations to be delibered during the training in order to understand the basic objectives.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Parliament, Sa’adatu Muhammad-Lawal commended the SCI for organising the training for members of the parliament.
“We consider this as a great opportunity for us to learn how to advocate on social protection issues affecting various vulnerable groups and individuals in the society”, She said.
