Several students at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, have launched a plea for donations to secure the release of their fellow student, Miss Francisca Chioma.
Chioma, a student of the Science Education Department, went missing on Friday, April 5, en route to a burial ceremony in a community in Anambra State.
Concerns escalated when Chioma failed to respond to calls, sparking distress among her peers, friends, and relatives. Ken Chukwurah, the Chief Security Officer of the institution, confirmed the incident, stating that security agencies have been alerted and are actively involved in the case.
Chukwurah disclosed that the kidnappers had established contact with Chioma’s family, initially demanding a ransom of N10 million, which was later negotiated down to N2 million. The kidnappers imposed a deadline of Tuesday for the payment.
Social media platforms became a focal point for raising awareness and funds. One post by Collins C. detailed Chioma’s abduction and appealed for assistance in raising the ransom. The post urged prayers for Chioma’s safety and solicited financial contributions from the public.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, acknowledged the incident and urged anyone with pertinent information to come forward to aid the investigation.
As the search for Chioma continues, students and authorities are working tirelessly to ensure her safe return, underscoring the community’s solidarity and determination to confront such security challenges.
