Uphold spirit of Eid-el-Kabir sacrifice, Tambuwal urges Muslims

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has urged Muslims across the country to uphold the spirit of sacrifice in dealing with one another and the society at large.

Tambuwal, who spoke on Tuesday in a statewide broadcast in Sokoto said the Eid-el-Kabir period remained a season that symbolised sacrifice.

“For, Allah requires not our offerings for Himself. They are rather, a practice in compassion and charity toward fellow citizens.

“Let us, in this period of rest and leisure, engage ourselves in the reflection of the divine favors we enjoy and be grateful to the Almighty.

“We should also contemplate our situation and consider what our own role is in bringing about the condition of our state and nation, with a view to rededicating ourselves or adjusting our conducts.

“Acts of banditry and kidnapping by recalcitrant and Godless elements have killed, sacked and pillaged our communities and disrupted our socio-economic stability.

“More so, hostage takers have inhibited our highways, threatening agricultural activities and the flow of our businesses and economy,” he said.

The governor added that the COVID-19 pandemic was still with us and called for the continuous observance of preventive protocols even though it had generally subsided in most parts of the country, by the will of Allah.

“We are indeed grateful that in the last couple of months, we have recorded zero case in Sokoto state.

“I appeal to all of us to continue to observe all the protocols as enunciated by world, national and state authorities for us to continue to curtail the spread of the disease,” he said.

On the current state of insecurity in some parts of the state, Tambuwal appreciated the cooperation of the traditional institution and supplications of the Ulama, under the guidance of the Sultan of Sokoto.

“The value and efficacy of prayers cannot be overemphasised, especially in this period of an important act of worship.

” As we celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, I enjoin us all to imbibe the spirit of brotherhood and all the virtues that are symbolised by this holy season.

“It is a time to cleanse our hearts and the intentions of our acts, for the sole purpose of securing the reward from the Almighty and the benefit of society,” he added.

He congratulated the Muslim Ummah and all Nigerians on the Eid-el-Kabir day of sacrifice and prayed Allah to accept the acts of worship and grant the blessings of the holy season.
