URBAN SECURITY: Yobe Awards Contracts for the Supply of  2,550  Solar Streetlights units.

The Yobe State Government has awarded contracts for the supply and installation of  2,550 units of all-in-one integrated solar streetlights across various parts of the state, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure, enhance urban security, and promote renewable energy.

The contract signing ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Ministry of Transport and Energy in Damaturu. Commissioner of the ministry, Mohammed Mohammed Bara, on behalf of the state government, signed the contracts.

Under the contract agreements, JINABCO International Limited will provide a total of 2,200 solar streetlights across eleven local government areas of  Gulani, Tarmuwa, Bursari, Yunusari, Fune, Fika, Nangere, Jakusko, Karasuwa, Yusufari, and Machina.

In addition, E-MAX Multipurpose Nigeria Limited was awarded a contract for the installation of 200 units of solar streetlights at Abba Ibrahim Housing Estate and its Extension within the Damaturu metropolis.

Similarly, SAD Merchandise Nigeria Limited will undertake the installation of 150 units of all-in-one integrated solar streetlights at the Ibrahim Gaidam Ultra-Modern Market, Damaturu.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, the commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry’s determination to ensure effective supervision and strict adherence to project specifications to guarantee high-quality delivery within the stipulated timeframe.

Mohammed Bara noted that the initiative reflects the vision of His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, to expand access to modern energy infrastructure, improve urban safety, and stimulate economic growth through the deployment of renewable energy solutions across Yobe State.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Mustapha Abba Gaidam, emphasised the strategic importance of solar energy in driving sustainable economic development and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing energy services for the benefit of all citizens.

> The solar streetlight projects are expected to significantly improve nighttime visibility, enhance public safety, and boost commercial activities in key urban and rural areas of  Yobe State.
