USAID tasks Adamawa officials on gender, social inclusion mainstreaming

Chabiyada Eli, the Adamawa Coordinator of USAID State2State activity, has urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to integrate Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) principles into their programmes and policies.

Eli made the call at the quarterly meeting of the programme on Thursday in Yola.

Eli said the initiative aligns with USAID’s broader commitment to promoting gender equality and social inclusion, as evident in their Disability Policy and other projects.

According to her, implementing GESI in the State2State activity would ensure that all individuals, regardless of gender or social status have equal opportunities and access to resources.

Eli said the objective of the meeting was to review conflict and GESI-related issues identified by the priority MDAs in implementing the 2024 budget.

“To share experiences and review the progress of GESI mainstreaming activities implemented in quarter three across various MDAs to identify and document outcome results/successes, challenges, and lessons learned.

“Develop modalities for effective mainstreaming of Conflict and GESI in priority MDAs’ activities”, she said.

According to her, the project would end in August 2025 hence the need for participants to be ready to work with the state transformation committee for sustainability strategy.

Suzanne Myada, State2State Team lead, appreciated the participants for their active participation and urged them to do everything possible for the development of the state.

Myada, who was represented by Mr Iheanyichukwu Iheke, State2State‘s Local Government Manager, advised the participants to understand the objectives of the meeting, and always be conflict sensitive to avoid crisis.

She urged them to also promote gender equality and promote accountability and transparency for good governance.

Mr Hassan Aliyu, a participant from the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, described the meeting as timely, particularly for coinciding with the 16 days of activism in commemoration of International Day for the elimination of violence against women coming up Nov. 25.

He commended USAID for the meeting which he said enabled them to get updates across MDAs as well as ginger them to continue to put GESI lens for sharing ideas with principal officers to promote gender equality in the state.
