USAID trains Adamawa officials on self assessment tools for good governance

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has commenced the pilot test training of Adamawa Government personnel on internal control self-assessment tools for good governance, transparency and accountability.

The training is under the State2State programme in priority sectors of education, health, water, and sanitation as well as Public Financial Management (PFM) in Ministries, Developments and Agencies (MDAs).

Speaking at the training on Wednesday in Yola, a State2State PFM Specialist, Mr Allahdon Kenan,said participants would be trained on internal control manuals and how to use the self-assessment tool for continuous improvement.

Kenan said that participants were selected from MDAs in priority sectors to test run and diagnose their internal control environment using the self-assessment tool.

He said that the development would improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of partner states’ government financial operations as well as mainstream conflict sensitivity into internal control and reduce conflict.

Ms Suzanne Myada, Adamawa State2State Team Lead, urged participants to utilise the training as an opportunity for the needed skills that would enable them to perform more effectively in the development of the state.

“The purpose of our assessment is to identify what are we doing well that we should sustain and where are the gaps, and how can we improve.”

In his address, Alhaji Usman Ahmad,The State Auditor General, lauded the intervention by USAID, and reassured the commitment of the Adamawa Government to good governance and accountability.

Ahmad, represented by Assistant Director, Government Account, Mr Daniel Sakiyo, tasked participants on active participation for more  skills needed for effective service delivery in their respective MDAs.

Ismail Adeleye, the consultant also urged the participants to be interactive for a fruitful training.
