Wamakko Flag Off Free Eye Care Initiative for 5,000 Patients in Sokoto

As part of his ever burning desire to give back to humanity, the Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Aliyu Mahatakarda Wamakko Saturday flaged off a free eye care programme targeting 5,000 patients across Sokoto State.
Flagging off the free eye care programme at the senator’s constituency office along Garba Duba Road, the representative of the Senator, Alhaji Almustpha Alkali said surgeries, curative glasses and eye medications would also be provided.
Alhaji Almustpha who is the State Permanent Secretary Ministry of Agriculture, said the beneficiaries were drawn from all 23 local government areas of Sokoto state.
“We have made adequate arrangements to ensure the comfort and well-being of all patients during their hospital stay,” Alkali assured
It will be recalled that Senator Wamakko had in 2017 and 2018 sponsored similar yeye care outreach programmes where no fewer than 3,150 and 6,000 patients were treated respectively.
Continuing, Almustpha said, “this year’s edition, is being implemented in collaboration with Vision Savers Eye Services and Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, and will run for five days.

In his part, Chairman of Vision Savers Services, Dr. Kamal Umar, commended the initiative, stressing its potential to reduce preventable blindness in the state.
“Every 10 minutes, someone in the world goes blind, often due to lack of access to timely surgery.
“This programme will go a long way in addressing that challenge locally.” Umar maintained.
Umar further appealed to beneficiaries to pray for the continuity of the programme and the well-being of its sponsor, Senator Aliyu Mahatakarda Wamakko.
