WHY WE CHALLENGE ZAMFARA GUBER PDP PRIMARY IN COURT SAYS ASPIRANT, HAFIZ ALIYU MUHAMMAD

The Zamfara Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship aspirant, Alhaji Hafiz Mohammed said they challenge the governorship primary election in court to protect the integrity of the party.

The PDP Governorship Primary in the state held on May 25, produced Dr Dauda Lawal-Dare, as the Party governorship candidate for the 2023 general elections in the state.

Three governorship aspirants, Dr Ibrahim Shehu-Gusau, Wadatau Madawaki and Alhaji Hafiz Muhammad are seeking the nullification of the primary election at federal high court Gusau over alleged irregularities.

The primary election was conducted by the committee sent from the PDP National Headquarters Abuja, led by Alhaji Adamu Maina-Waziri.

Speaking to newsmen in Gusau on Monday, Muhammad said the 2022 governorship primary election in the state was characterised by alleged series of irregularities.

“If those irregularities left to go like that, it may cause problem to the party in the general elections.

“If Lawal-Dare eventually win governorship election in 2023 other parties could challenge his candidature as PDP flag bearer because of the irregularities in the PDP’s primary election.

“We have to act fast to protect our party the PDP to avoid losing the governorship election for our inability to conduct transparent and credible primary election”, he added.

“We took the matter to court to ensure integrity in the party and sure that this is the stand of majority of the PDP members across the state”.

“We will pursue the case to its logical conclusion no matter how long it will take so as to avoid wasted votes in the forth coming 2023 general elections”.

“Some of the irregularities recorded during the election was refusal of those who supervised the election to allow women participation in the whole process”, he explained.

According to him, the PDP constitution stipulated that one woman must be among the three delegates from each ward of the state in the governorship primary election

“Women were not allowed to participate during the primary election.

“There must be a woman in each of the 147 political wards in the state, therefore 147 women supposed participate in the governorship primary

“So this is a violation of our party constitution”., Muhammad said.
