Wikki tourists’ chairman assures renewed drive to revive club

The newly appointed Chairman of Wikki Tourists Football Club of Bauchi, Alhaji Salmanu Abubakar, has assured supporters of renewed drive to reposition the club for better performance in the ongoing 2025/2026 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

He gave the assurance at a news conference on Monday in Bauchi and expressed concern over the club’s current 14th position on the league table, but pledged decisive action to improve results.

He said that the club management was already working on reinforcing the squad through the recruitment of proven professional goal scorers to boost the team’s attacking strength.

The chairman added that the club had adopted a new playing style aimed at enhancing performance and competitiveness in the league.

According to him, early signs from the ongoing season are encouraging, but patience and collective support are required to achieve the desired turnaround.

Abubakar also assured supporters and stakeholders that his leadership would ensure level playing ground for all, stressing that professionalism, transparency, and discipline would guide the club’s operations.

He urged fans to remain calm, steadfast and supportive, while also calling for prayers to back the management and technical crew.

He pledged clear division of labour and shared responsibilities within the club’s structure, explaining that key officials, including the camp commandant and team management, would be assigned defined roles to enhance efficiency and accountability.

He emphasised that Wikki Tourists FC is neither a political, tribal, nor regional club, but a unifying team that belongs to all citizens of the state.

He also pledged to involve the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in the club’s activities to promote transparency and collective success.

He expressed gratitude to Gov. Bala Mohammed, and the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Babayo Gabarin, for finding him worthy of the appointment, pledging not to disappoint the government and the people.
