Yobe agric fair showcased 178 indigenous seeds, crops – Official

At least 178 indigenous crops and seeds were on display at the just-concluded agric exhibition in Damaturu, the Yobe capital.

The Director, Pasture, state Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Bulama Ladan, disclosed this on Thursday at the end of a week-long agriculture show in Damaturu.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the exhibition was organised by the ministry, in collaboration with Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes.

Ladan listed the crops and seeds to include banana, mango, sesame, rice, doum palm, sugarcane, cassava, bambara nut, gum Arabic, desert date and hibiscus.

He also listed other items on display as agriculture machinery, sheep, goats, rams, cattle, and camel, among others.

According to him, the exhibition provided a platform for promoting agribusiness, exchange of ideas and display of innovations in agriculture, among farmers.

In a closing remark, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mohammad Gulani, commended the exhibitors, sponsors and organising committee for making the show a success.

“Your contributions have helped to promote agricultural development and provided stakeholders with a platform to share knowledge and expertise,” he said.

VMT NEWS reports that highlights of the event included the presentation of certificate of attendance to farmers’ groups across the state.
