Yobe State Butchers Union has paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Hon. Yarima Lawan Mahmud, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration toward reforming and sanitising the state abattoir system.

Receiving the delegation led by the General Manager of the state abattoir, Dr. Hassan Yakubu, the Commissioner, expressed optimism about ongoing efforts to improve livestock management and assured the visitors that their requests would be duly conveyed to the appropriate authorities.

In a statement made available to newsmen by the information officer of the ministry Aishatu Tijjani, the Commissioner reaffirmed that the Ministry remains committed to the vision of Governor Mai Mala Buni CON  in advancing agriculture and livestock development across the state.

Earlier, the State Chairman of the Butchers Association, Malam Usman Muhammad Yellow, commended the appointment of Hon. Yarima Lawan Mahmud, describing him as a seasoned administrator whose experience and leadership would yield positive transformation in the livestock sector.

The Union leadership also appealed for financial support to help the association recover from post-insurgency setbacks, in addition to seeking employment opportunities for their children.

In a related visit, the Al-Haya Shuwa Cattle Breeders Association, led by Chairman Ahmad Gaji, also met with the Ministry to explore areas of collaboration for the development of farmers and herders statewide.

Gaji requested similar assistance to that provided for farmers, noting that the establishment of the Ministry has renewed confidence among herders regarding fairness and inclusion.

Addressing both groups, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Idriss Yusuf Madaki emphasised the importance of fostering synergy and harmonising efforts among all stakeholders.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening livestock production and resolving conflicts between herders and farmers.
