Yobe empowers 500 youth with N50m grants, start-up kits
The Yobe state governor , Mai Mala Buni, Tuesday flagged off the distribution of N50 million cash grants and start-up kits to 500 beneficiaries trained by the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The beneficiaries, who received N100,000 each alongside equipment, were trained in soap-making, detergent production, charcoal, shoe-making and disinfectant production.
Speaking during the flagging-off ceremony Monday at the WAWA Hall, Government House, Damaturu, Governor Buni said the initiative highlighted his administration’s commitment to post-conflict recovery and grassroots empowerment.
“Today, we celebrate not just a training program but a milestone in our shared quest to transform lives and communities.

“The 500 beneficiaries who were trained in the production of soaps, detergents, charcoal, shoes and disinfectants marks a significant milestone in our administration’s commitment to our recovery programme, by rebuilding livelihoods, strengthening economic resilience, and fostering stability for a brighter future of these communities,” he said.
He noted that the participants are now equipped with skills to promote self-reliance and local entrepreneurship.
“Each beneficiary will receive a cash grant of NGN100,000 and a start-up kit to launch their businesses, for a sustainable income generation,” he said.
