Yobe gov mourns accident victims, seeks strict traffic law enforcement

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has called on road traffic agencies in the state to ensure strict adherence to traffic laws throughout the end-of-year festive season.

Buni made this appeal in a statement issued and signed by the Director General of Press and Media to the Governor, Mamman Mohammed, in response to a tragic road traffic accident along the Bayari-Geidam federal highway that resulted in multiple fatalities.

In the statement Wednesday, the governor expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased, describing their loss as a significant tragedy for both the state and their loved ones.

Buni urged the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Yobe Road Traffic Agency, and the Vehicle Inspection Department to ensure that all drivers and vehicles are qualified and roadworthy.

He emphasised the crucial role of road traffic unions in this effort, stating, “We count on your cooperation to ensure the safety of motorists and passengers on our roads.

“You should ensure that only road-worthy vehicles and qualified drivers ply the roads, and observe all traffic laws.

“You should also ensure that the lives of our people are not put to risk in the hands of underaged drivers, rickety and overloaded vehicles”

The governor described the death of the passengers as a sad and great loss to their families and the state.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased persons and grant their families the fortitude to bear the sad, unfortunate and irreparable loss.
