Yobe Government educates teachers on contemporary memorization methods
In a bid to enhance the teaching techniques of Arabic and Islamic educators, the Yobe State government has organized a one-day workshop for public schools teachers across the seventeen local government areas of the state.
The workshop which held at Government Girls College Damaturu aims to educate teachers on instilling good virtues in students.
Dr. Muhammad Sani Idriss, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, emphasized the importance of efficiently teaching students to learn and memorize the Holy Qur’an within a short timeframe.
He highlighted the government’s recognition of the necessity for a dual curriculum, enabling students to acquire both Western and Islamic knowledge from the secondary level.
“We aim to ensure teachers engage students using effective Quranic learning methods, ultimately graduating students with exemplary virtues. It’s important to note that Quran memorization is optional,” stated Dr. Idriss.
Alhaji Bukar Aji Bukar, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, expressed gratitude for the teachers’ turnout and underscored the workshop’s significance in advancing the state’s education sector.
Malam Umar Abubakar, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Arabic and Islamic Education Board (AISEB), and Alhaji Ado Idrissa, Chairman of the Nigeria Teachers’ Union (NUT) in Yobe State, commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for initiating the workshop.
Malam Muhammad Abiso from El-Kanemi College of Islamic Theology in Maiduguri led the workshop’s resource persons.
The event was also attended by directors from the ministry and school principals.
