Yobe govt enrols 276,206 persons into contributory health scheme

The Yobe Government on Wednesday said it has so far enrolled 276,206 persons under its Contributory Healthcare Programme.

Dr Babagana Tijjani, Executive Secretary, Yobe Contributory Healthcare Management Agency ( YSCHMA), disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu.

According to him, 189,490 of the enrollees are civil servants registered under the formal sector of the programme.

He said a set of 30,269 poor and vulnerable persons were registered under the Social Equity sector.

Tijjani said 720 vigilante members and 530 others were enrolled under the informal sector.

On the Federal Government-sponsored Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF), the executive secretary said 42,113 vulnerable persons were registered and benefiting from the services.

He said another set of 10,000 poor and vulnerable persons were enrolled under the Zero-dose programme sponsored by UNICEF in Geidam and Gulani Local Government Areas.

Tijjani said 2,500 poor and vulnerable persons enrolled were receiving free health services at 10 health facilities funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).

The executive secretary said there were 202 health facilities registered by the agency under the scheme.

He commended the Gov Mai Mala Buni-led administration for the prompt funding of the scheme, especially the release of counterpart funds for the BHCPF.

“ YSCHMA was established in 2019 by the Buni-led administration as part of efforts toward attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

“ Since then, there has been constant release of equity funds for the vulnerable and counterpart funds for BHCPF.

“ As we speak, Yobe is the only state in the North East with employers’ contribution of 3.25% of employees consolidated salary into the scheme,” Tijjani said.(www.nannews.ng)
