Yobe Govt. pledges support for biomedical research training

Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to support the Biomedical Research Training Centre (BioRTC) at the Yobe State University.

Buni made the pledge on Wednesday in Damaturu at the opening of the 2nd Scientific Conference of the centre.

Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idi Gubana, the governor said he expected the conference to focus on biomedical sciences, research and training to address the health challenges facing residents.

He assured that the government would continue to provide funding for the centre’s operations, including equipment maintenance and research projects, to ensure it meets international standards.

He highlighted the state’s pioneering role in applying scientific innovation to solve public health challenges, particularly in rural areas.

The governor also noted that the administration had consistently provided logistic support for BioRTC’s workshops and summer schools, ensuring that doctors, researchers and students have the necessary resources to participate.

He added that the state had supported more than 300 participants and professors from various regions to visit and train at the centre.

Buni further revealed that the state sponsored three BioRTC staff members for specialised training in the UK to enhance local expertise in biomedical techniques.

He expressed appreciation to Dr Mahmoud Maina, his Special Adviser on Science, Research and Innovation, for his dedication and efforts in securing medical research equipment for the BioRTC.
