Yobe, National Commission Meet On Safe School Initiative

DAMATURU – In a significant move to bolster the education sector in Yobe State, the Honorable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Assoc. Prof. Abba Idriss Adam, met with the Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission, Dr. Iyela Ajayi.

The meeting, held at Damaturu, focused on effective implementation of the Safe School Initiative (SSI), aimed at ensuring safety and security of students, teachers, and school facilities across Nigeria.

Represented by Alh. Bukar Modu Mustapa, Director of School Services, the Commissioner assured the state government’s commitment to collaborating with the commission for sectoral improvement.

Dr. Ajayi, represented by Haj. Rabiatu Umar Mohammed, Director of Quality Assurance, emphasized the SSI’s objectives: protecting schools from threats, providing emergency preparedness, and promoting a conducive learning environment.

The meeting also discussed School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) and their role in enhancing management and decision-making processes.

Abubakar Maina Fika of the NCSDC reported on the command’s 2022 achievements, including inspecting 22,000 primary and secondary schools and establishing a control room.

The Executive Secretary of the Science Technical School Board, Dr. Dauda Mohammed Atiyaye, delivered a vote of thanks, commending stakeholders for their contributions.

Prominent attendees included Hon. Yakubu Yasidi Dokshi, Chairman of TSB; SBMC chairmen; principals; and representatives of private schools.
