The Yobe State Police Command, in alignment with all Commands across the federation, has joined in commemorating 70 years of Women in the Nigeria Police Force from 1955 to 2025.
The event, which took place at the State Police Command Headquarters in Damaturu, brought together women police officers drawn from Divisional Headquarters, Departments, and Units across the state.
The ceremony highlighted the indispensable role women play in all facets of national life, including law enforcement and security management. Over the decades, women have contributed significantly to the growth, professionalism, and modernisation of the Nigeria Police Force—strengthening gender mainstreaming, inclusiveness, operational efficiency, and respect for cultural and social diversity in policing.
However, the Command also expressed concern over the persistent challenge of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), which continues to hinder the educational and social development of the girl child. Officers used the occasion to call on community members to support the fight against all forms of GBV, ensuring a safer society where women and girls can reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

The Command further urged parents and guardians to encourage their female children to pursue careers in the Nigeria Police Force. Increased female involvement in policing, especially in handling matters involving women and children, will enhance fairness, improve public trust, and strengthen security delivery across the state.
In his remarks, Yobe state Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ado, commended the unwavering dedication, professionalism, and courage of women police officers since their integration into the Nigeria Police Force.
He encouraged them to maintain the momentum, remain exemplary, and continue championing efforts toward eliminating Gender-Based Violence in Yobe State.
The Command reaffirms its commitment to equity, professionalism, and the protection of all citizens—especially women and children.
