Yobe SEMA Hosts Successful Onboarding Meeting For CSOs Implementing LCBC’s Peace Building Project

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) recently hosted a successful onboarding meeting for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) selected to implement the Lake Chad Basin Commission’s Peace Building Project.

The meeting, which took place in Damaturu, was attended by representatives of the selected CSOs, SEMA officials, and other stakeholders. Dr. Mohammed Goje, Executive Secretary of SEMA, welcomed the participants and congratulated the CSOs on their success in the merit-based selection process.

Dr. Goje emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity and effective project implementation, urging the CSOs to work together to achieve the project’s objectives. Alhaji Baba Shehu, Executive Director of the Yobe CSOs Network, also delivered a brief opening remark, highlighting the project’s significance as a result of sustained CSO advocacy in the region.

During the meeting, the selected organizations shared their activity plans and locations, and committed to sharing workplans to support monitoring and evaluation. The coordination mechanism for the project was also discussed, with SEMA coordinating vertically and the Yobe CSOs Network horizontally to ensure smooth project implementation.

Six Local Government Areas (LGAs) will be involved in the project, including Bade, Jakusko, Nangere, Damaturu, Geidam, and Gujba. The meeting also identified action points, including the development of a reporting template by SEMA and the submission of work plans and community selection by the CSOs.

The meeting concluded with a call to action, urging the CSOs to provide feedback to their organizations and prepare for successful implementation. SEMA pledged to offer continued support throughout the project.
