Yobe State Government Breaks Decades-Long Road Blockade, Opening Up Three Water-Locked Communities

The Yobe State Government, under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, has finally broken a decades-long roadblock, delivering long-awaited access to three water-locked communities in the state: Tagali, Masaba, and Karasuwa-Galu.

For generations, these communities struggled to connect to the outside world, facing immense hardship in transporting goods, accessing healthcare, and participating in economic activities.  The lack of proper road infrastructure had also impeded development and created significant hardship for residents.

“The plight of these communities has been a constant source of concern for our administration,” said Governor Buni. “For too long, they were isolated and denied the basic right to mobility. We are proud to have finally brought them into the fold of progress and development.”

The construction of these crucial roads was a significant undertaking, addressing a long-standing grievance that had persisted for over 50 years. Notably, the Karasuwa-Galu community had campaigned for road access since the construction of the Gashua-Nguru federal highway in the 1970s, their dream finally becoming a reality.

The Buni administration has also made significant investments in improving the Danchua-Jajere road, a vital artery for the region, further boosting economic activities and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

With the completion of these vital projects, the communities are experiencing a dramatic shift.  Farmers are now able to easily transport their produce to markets in Gashua and Nguru, eliminating exploitative middlemen.  The improved infrastructure is also creating new employment opportunities and fostering economic growth.

“This is a momentous achievement for our state,” stated Mamman Mohammed, Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor. “It demonstrates the commitment of the Buni administration to bring development to every corner of Yobe State, regardless of geographical location. We are confident that these new roads will serve as a catalyst for long-term prosperity in these communities.”
