Yobe State Government Launches Major Empowerment and Educational Initiatives
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has initiated a significant disbursement of financial incentives and empowerment programs aimed at uplifting thousands of residents, with a particular focus on girls’ education and economic recovery.

The initiative saw over N1.2 billion allocated to 32,382 girls, N300 million in micro-enterprise grants for 1,500 individuals, and empowerment materials for 340 women across the state.
The N1.2 billion financial incentive, a collaborative effort with the World Bank under the AGILE project, directly supports the education of the girl child.
Governor Buni emphasized education’s crucial role in societal progress, stating that it is a top priority for his administration.
This commitment is further underscored by extensive reforms in the education sector, including massive teacher recruitment, ongoing training, the renovation and construction of over 5,000 classrooms, the establishment of 13 mega and model schools, and the provision of learning materials.
Additionally, the government has consistently paid WAEC and NECO examination fees for eligible students and established nine Senior Girls Day Secondary Schools to ensure a smoother transition for female students and reduce dropout rates.

In parallel, 1,500 beneficiaries from the displaced community of Mallam Dunari in Gujba Local Government Area received N300 million in micro-enterprise grants.
This program is designed to foster recovery, stabilization, and durable solutions for communities impacted by insurgency and economic disruption.
The intervention complements existing investments in agriculture and infrastructure within Gujba LGA, with specific projects like a new Primary Health Care Centre, motorized boreholes, and solar streetlights implemented in Goniri, a neighboring host community.
Furthermore, 340 women from all 17 local government areas were empowered with vocational materials, including cooking gas, micro-ovens, mixers, and flour, to establish small pastry businesses as part of International Women’s Day commemorations.
Governor Buni urged beneficiaries to utilize these resources judiciously, acknowledging them as a select group chosen from many in need.
