Recognizing education as the cornerstone of progress, Governor Buni has prioritized its recovery and expansion.  This commitment is demonstrated by:

State Scholarship Scheme: Over 38,000 students are receiving scholarships for tertiary education in Nigeria and abroad.  This includes over 500 law students sponsored through law school and 230 Buni Scholars pursuing medical and allied courses in India, many of whom are now employed in Yobe State’s healthcare system.  The influx of Buni Scholars has notably increased the number of pharmacists in the state, exceeding the previous total by 6.

Addressing critical healthcare challenges, Governor Buni’s administration has:

Established the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC):  This state-of-the-art facility, the only open-access biomedical research center in Nigeria, is attracting international collaboration and driving groundbreaking research across Africa.  The center has already hosted 50 scientists participating in one of Africa’s largest sub-regional research programs, earning Governor Buni an honorary membership in the Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA) – a unique achievement for an African leader.

Strengthened Healthcare Workforce: Investments in the Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery and medical colleges are bolstering healthcare delivery.  The recent accreditation of Yobe State University Teaching Hospital to train Community Medicine physicians further enhances healthcare capacity.  The administration is actively addressing kidney failure affecting communities along the River Yobe.

Infrastructure and Economic Development:

The administration’s commitment extends to infrastructure development:

Road Construction: Extensive road construction has improved access to previously isolated communities, stimulating socio-economic activity.

Youth Empowerment:  Governor Buni’s administration has significantly increased youth participation in government and economic development, with numerous young people holding key positions in ministries, departments, and agencies.
