Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, has been awarded the prestigious “Health Gov.” award by Blueprint Newspaper. The award recognizes the significant strides made in the state’s healthcare sector under Governor Buni’s leadership.

Malam Salisu Umar, Managing Director of Blueprint Newspaper, presented the award to Governor Buni yesterday, May 20th, 2025, citing the “visibly impressive transformation” in Yobe State’s healthcare infrastructure and service delivery. Umar emphasized that the award aims to encourage Governor Buni’s continued commitment to the well-being of the state’s citizens.

Governor Buni expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the substantial investments made in healthcare infrastructure and capacity building. He detailed the following key achievements:
**Construction of 140 new Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs):* These facilities have expanded access to basic healthcare services across the state, reaching previously underserved communities.
**Upgrade of six PHCs to General Hospitals:* This enhancement has significantly increased the capacity and scope of healthcare services available in these localities.
**Upgrade of four General Hospitals to Specialist Hospitals:* The upgrade has provided advanced medical care capabilities, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state for specialized treatment.
**Re-equipment of the Yobe State Teaching Hospital:* The hospital has been modernized with state-of-the-art facilities, improving the quality of medical training and patient care.
**Establishment of Nigeria’s largest maternal and child care center:* This significant investment prioritizes the health and well-being of mothers and children, a critical aspect of public health.
