Yobe State to Engage in Dialogue on Contributory Pension Scheme
Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has announced plans for a comprehensive dialogue with trade unions and other stakeholders regarding the implementation of a contributory pension scheme for state and local government employees.

The Governor revealed this during a courtesy visit from the National Pension Commission (PenCom) management. Buni emphasized the need for collaborative discussions to foster a clear understanding of the scheme among government officials, labor unions, and civil servants.
“The dialogue aims to ensure everyone is on the same page, promoting acceptance and efficient operation of the scheme,” he stated.
Governor Buni further emphasized the importance of a legally binding framework to formalize the scheme, highlighting the need for a dedicated law to ensure consistency and legal backing.

The Director General of PenCom, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, outlined the purpose of the visit, advocating for the establishment of the contributory pension scheme in Yobe State. She urged the government to enact a contributory pension scheme law and create a dedicated Pension Bureau.
