Yobe Teaching Hospital gets WACP accreditation to train 25 doctors

The Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH), Damaturu, has secured full accreditation by the West African College of Physicians (WACP), to train 25 resident doctors.

Gov. Mai Mala Buni said this on Monday in a statement by Mamman Mohammed, the Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Government House, Damaturu.

Buni stated this during an unscheduled inspection visit to the Community Medicine Department of the hospital,  constructed by his administration.

According to Buni, the accreditation and completion of the facility would enhance manpower training.

“The accreditation and completion of the project are indeed monumental achievements by the administration towards enhancing manpower training for improved healthcare service delivery,” Buni was quoted as saying in the statement.

The governor was accompanied in the visit by Sen. Musa Mustapha (APC – Yobe East ) and other top government officials.

The accreditation followed a recommendation by WACP team of experts which visited the department between Nov. 11 and Nov. 14, 2024.

In a letter to the hospital signed by WACP Secretary- General, Dr Musa Dankyau, said the full accreditation was for five years.

“Junior residents, 15 in number, while senior residents, 10.

“Please note that you are expected to reapply for reaccreditation six months before the due date of 23rd Match, 2030.”
