Yobe to screen beneficiaries of 2025 farm inputs
The Yobe Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has pledged to ensure that only genuine farmers benefit from free inputs under the 2025 Agriculture Empowerment Programme.
Commissioner for the ministry, Alh. Ali Goniri, made this known on Thursday during an inspection of dry season farming in Gogaram, Usur and Dawayau in Bade and Jakusko LGAs.
According to him, strict measures will be introduced to prevent non-farmers from accessing the state’s free agricultural inputs.
“Gov. Mai Mala Buni has directed that only verified farmers receive inputs under the 2025 Agriculture Empowerment Programme,” the commissioner emphasised.
Goniri added: “In 2024, 5,340 farmers received around 77,000 assorted inputs. We plan to exceed that figure in 2025.”

He acknowledged that challenges in 2024 prompted the governor to demand an evidence-based approach: ‘Show proof you’re a farmer, and you’ll receive inputs.’
Goniri said the volume of farming activities in each area would guide how inputs are distributed across the state.
He listed available inputs as tractors, solar-powered irrigation pumps, ploughs, tillers, sprayers, planters, fertiliser and agrochemicals.
Impressed by the dry season farming in Gogaram, Goniri announced automatic borehole allocations to rice farmers, Nasiru Umar and Auwal Mohammed.
In response, Mohammed thanked the governor and commissioner, saying the gesture would inspire him to further invest in rice farming.
