Yobe’s Gov. Buni, lawmakers-elect receive Certificates of Return from INEC
Yobe’s Gov. Mai Mala Buni and the state’s lawmakers-elect received Certificates of Return from INEC in Damaturu on Wednesday following their election on March 18.
In his acceptance speech, Buni commended the people of Yobe for conducting themselves peacefully during the election.
“It is gladdening that we, the people of Yobe, conducted ourselves peacefully and maturely in both the presidential and National Assembly elections.
“We have truly exhibited that Yobe is the home of peaceful elections built on the concept of `Politics without Bitterness’ as propagated by our revered political icon, the late Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim,’’ he said.
Alhaji Ibrahim was the founder of the Great Nigeria’s Peoples Party (GNPP) of the defunct Second Republic.
“It is also heart-warming that politicians and their supporters in the state have refused to give room to political violence and thuggery.
“This further made Yobe state a role model of peaceful electioneering for other states to copy.’’ Buni added.

He commended all contenders for putting in good contests with passion to serve the state.
“I also wish to commend opposition political parties and their candidates for showing interest and passion to serve our dear state through healthy politicking,” he stressed.
Buni extended hands of fellowship and invited everyone to join in building the state.
“We will continue to maintain an open-door policy to give everyone a sense of belonging and the opportunity to contribute to the development of the state,’’ the second-term governor said.
