Zamfara First Lady empowers 30,400 women
The Zamfara State First Lady, Hajiya Bello Matawalle, has on Thursday, disclosed that her office has been able to empower 30,400 women through the State Government initiated Women Empowerment Programme under her office.
Matawalle disclosed this in Gusau, at the official launching of the new strategy for the programme under her office.
According to her Governor Matawalle had come up with various social intervention schemes aimed at making our people self-reliant and economically productive adding that one of these programmes, which was being implemented through my office was that of women empowerment.
“Under this programme, a monthly grant of 20,000 naira is given to each of the beneficiaries, drawn from across the 14 Local Government Areas of the state. As of today, the scheme has reached over 30,000 women.
“The programme was introduced in recognition of the fact that women, in traditional societies like ours, are the most vulnerable; they suffer all forms of social, economic and political deprivations.
“Our administration recognises that for women to discharge their societal obligations effectively, they need to be socially and economically empowered.
“More than one year since the introduction of the programme, we have done a thorough evaluation of its implementation strategy and its impact on the targeted beneficiaries.
“Following the assessment, we have decided that a new strategy for disbursement of the funds should be adopted, “she added.
According to her, the new strategy was aimed at ensuring sanity, transparency and accountability in the process of funds’ disbursement, by giving the targeted beneficiaries the money directly the moment they are registered.

She said apart from eliminating the unnecessary bureaucratic bottlenecks, the new strategy would ensure that only the targeted group of women access the funds.
She called on the benefitting women to make the best use of the funds so that they would become self-reliant and contribute their own quota to the development of our communities.
In his remark, the Secretary to the Government, Alhaji Bala Bello, reiterated the state government ‘s readiness to continue to initiate programmes to reduce poverty and unemployment among people of the state.
Bello commended the governor’s wife for her efforts to complement Matawalle’s administration in providing succor to various groups of the needy in the state.
